June 4, 2005.

The Juneau members of the ASDF became involved early in the planning of a large combined search and rescue exercise (SAREX).  Major Longacre (CO DET A, 2BN (Signal)) agreed to be the representative for 49 MP BDE.  At its original stages, all locally available organizations were included; CG Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol, SEADOGS, Juneau Mountain Rescue, Coast Guard, ASDF, State troopers, etc.

Juneau personnel from 49MP BDE were able to assist other local assets in the large scale SAR exercise.    Positive contacts were made with the other organizations, establishing needed networks among all groups for possible emergencies, and insuring they are familiar with ASDF and its capabilities.  It is expected that we will be included in future plans and exercises, and be better able to use our training and expertise in future operations.

ASDF Personnel who took part in the activities:  Major Longacre (2BN), LT Pickering (1BN), WO Berg (1BN),  SGT Hoyt (1BN),  PFC Wright (1BN)
