Welcome to the Alaska National Guard Youth Program! The Youth Program is a new program to the Alaska National Guard, and we are here to serve the youth of our state’s Guardsmen.

The Youth Program is in its early stages, and we are still designing it. Your input as an AK National Guard Youth is important in helping to design a Youth Program. We will make a program the youth want and use! Below is the Mission Statement and Goals of the Youth Program.

• Assist youth in understanding why their guardian serves as a member of the Alaska National Guard.
• Help youth cope with the stress and confusion of deployment.
• Provide accurate and useful information to the youth of the Alaska National Guard.
• Provide positive experiences in safe environments.
• Encourage youth to develop positive self-esteem and self-confidence.
• Encourage youth to show respect for self and others.
• Encourage youth to develop team skills and leadership abilities.
• Assist youth in becoming more aware of hazards of substance abuse and other destructive behaviors.

• Website targeting Alaska National Guard Youth in order to:

o Serve as on-line meeting place for youth
o Dispense accurate information to youth
o Provide materials to assist youth in self-development

• Quarterly newsletter sent to all Alaska National Guard Youth.
• Facilitate youth in organizing monthly meetings/socials.
• Provide advisory assistance to youth leaders.
• Annual seminar for all youth to gather at an Alaskan city.

The Youth Program recently put on the first official Youth Deployment Briefing. The briefing was held 7 Aug 03 at the maintenance classrooms on Kulis Air Base. General and Mrs. Ramsay attended the briefing and Gen. Ramsay gave an information brief to the youth about the recent deployments throughout the 176th Wing. Then, three groups of youth participated in activities to help them understand what happens during deployment. The Family Assistance Center looks forward to having more of these soon!

The Family Assistance Center is filled with information and resources for the youth of the AK National Guard. Please call or drop by for some free coloring books and pamphlets, to watch a movie, or just to say HELLO!

Also, many other great websites already exist that can help you out! Please visit them to see what they have!
