Alpenglow Elementary Principal Recognized--"My Boss is
a Patriot"
During an Alpenglow Elementary military
appreciation family luncheon today, Principal Rick Toymil, center,
proudly shows off his recently acquired “My Boss is a Patriot” award
with Gunnery Sgt. Bradley Miller, left, of the Alaska Marine Corps
Reserve, and Rich Owens, Alaska Employer Support of the Guard and
Reserve Southcentral region chairman. Toymil was nominated for the
ESGR award by Alpenglow teacher and Marine Reservist Rick Kohler, who
was activated for a deployment to Iraq. Kohler is the first staff
member at Alpenglow Elementary to be deployed under Toymil’s four-year
tenure as school principal.
Kohler is currently training in Hawaii in
preparation for his deployment and wrote this about Toymil: “He has
supported my mobilization from the beginning and understands my
obligation to my service and country.”
The “My Boss is a Patriot” award is recognition
given to employers through nomination by their Reserve-component
employee. Employers qualify for recognition when they practice
leadership and personnel policies that support employee participation in
the Guard and Reserve.
Toymil said 51 percent of the students at Alpenglow
have some connection to the military. The school supports the military
in several ways such as hosting military family nights and recognizing
parents in the military with stars throughout the halls.
“I
can’t tell you how happy I am,” Toymil said. “It warms my heart just to
see everyone here.”
