Mobile Earthquake Simulator

Quake CottageTM is the first mobile earthquake simulator able to simulate up to an 8.0 magnitude earthquake. To book the Quake Cottage call the Alaska Division of Emergency Services at 800-478-2337 (428-7000 in Anchorage) or email to Ervin Petty, Mark Roberts, or Vince McCoy with the Municipality of Anchorage.

It was designed as a storybook-looking cottage with thatched roof and rests on a double-axle tandem trailer. It is self-powered and has three-dimensional movement .

The interior, which is easily viewed from a large audience window, can be set to resemble a typical family room or office environment. It features a fully equipped entertainment center, seating for two to three persons, a computer system, a cabinet with doors, and decorative framed art. All of the contents are seismically fastened to protect the occupants and demonstrate how violent yet survivable a major earthquake can be.

A multitude of television news programs (KTUU, KTVA, KIMO) air news specials on the Quake Cottage. Often a notification to these news stations can create a welcomed news opportunity for an event which otherwise would not receive news coverage. Specific uses for Quake Cottage include the following: trade shows, schools and universities, small businesses, disaster and science fairs, corporate training, and marketing opportunities.
