DMVA TO HOST Y2K TABLETOP EXERCISE
State leaders and policy makers will discuss Alaskas Y2K Contingency Plan
CAMP DENALI, Alaska --- Brigadier General Phillip Oates, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, will host the Governors Cabinet Year 2000 Tabletop Exercise in Juneau on Tuesday, April 20, 1999.
"This interactive forum allows key State leaders and policy makers to discuss policy issues, resource requirements and agency roles that support the States Year 2000 Contingency Plan," says Dusty Finley, Y2K Coordinator for the Alaska Division of Emergency Services.
The list of proposed participants includes representatives from the executive and legislative branches of the State government, the joint military community, the media and the business community. This group will examine several Year 2000 scenarios where coordinated Emergency Management response and/or recovery efforts may be necessary.
"The focus on Year 2000 issues provides us with a unique opportunity to enhance our overall preparedness. Many of the same precautions we are taking in anticipation of the new millennium compliment our ability to deal with a host of other potential natural and manmade disasters," adds Finley.
The exercise will be held at the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation Board Room from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, and is open to the public.
