| Training and Exercise Teleconference | |
| 10:30 AM-11:30 AM (Teleconference 1-800-791-2345, code 24614#) (the first Wednesday of every 1 month from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM) | |
| Good afternoon, Over the past several months, a small group of exercise planners and trainers have been meeting regularly. The teleconference began as a follow-on to partnership meetings with Health and ANTHC, during which the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM) committed to three conferences each year, planned around the tri-annual SERC and LEPCA meetings. DHS&EM believed that bringing together emergency managers and other community members who were not part of the LEPC, and providing additional training to LEPC members and other attendees is an important component of increasing Alaska’s preparedness. The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) co-sponsors these events as partners in Preparedness. The initial group included Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), who has been a planning partner. It soon became clear that, despite the State Preparedness Calendar for everyone’s planning and tracking Exercise and Training statewide, that, as a group, we were still not always aware of local and regional training and we began expanding the group. Many of you have received information or invitations to the Tri-Annual Preparedness Conference, September 15-19 in Fairbanks – the first tangible product supported by this group. In addition, information shared in this or other teleconferences has resulted in increased support for several upcoming exercises. With your input, we can maximize our success at the local, regional and state level and better prepare Alaskans for disasters such as the flooding the Fairbanks area is currently experiencing, along with storm-affected Wainwright and Kaktovik. We invite you to attend the monthly Statewide Training and Exercise teleconference. If you would like to know about upcoming exercises or training, request supports, join in planning small and large events, share your successes, or otherwise participate, please join us tomorrow, Wednesday, August 6, at 10:30am and the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30am. The number for the event remains the same each month: 1-800-791-2345, code 24614# This is not a mandatory teleconference and we know your time is valuable. We hope that you join us. We think it will be worth your time – it has been for us! Those of you in the middle of responding to recent events -- whenever you see this message, please know that we are thinking of you and that we will send out minutes from the meeting. Please share this information with anyone who might be interested. Likewise, feel free to let us know if you do not want to receive these announcements. Teleconferences will be posted on the Statewide Preparedness Calendar. Thanks! Merry Merry Carlson Program Manager, Preparedness Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management P.O. Box 5750 Ft. An attack on one of the larger commuter boats could result in a higher number of deaths than an attack on commercial aircraft or trains. Ferries are also continually at risk of an accident or a natural disaster. It is for these reasons that the Washington State Homeland Security Institute developed ERIFS. Ferry operations across the nation differ considerably, depending on the conditions faced, types of boats, services provided, and other local considerations. Therefore, ERIFS is an “awareness level” or basic information course, which is applicable to any ferry system. Consequently, the course has been structured to allow the instructor and the audience, to discuss and apply the information presented to their specific local jurisdiction. Questions which arise during the training will help emergency response communities to identify and address their unique emergency response considerations, from a multi-disciplined, multi-dimensional local perspective, that may include local weather and water conditions, specific vessel and terminal layout and construction issues, and particular areas of terrorism or disaster concerns ICS 402 – Incident Command System Summary for Executives Define the role of an Executive relative to the ICS Describe the various ways ICS can be applied Describe the basic organization of ICS and know the functional responsibilities of the Command and General Staffs Describe basic ICS terminology Identify the differences between incident/event ICS organizations and the activities accomplished by area Commands, EOC’s and MACS Describe the major responsibilities of an Executive as related to an incident/event, including the agency administrator briefing and delegation of authority Explain the administrative, logistical, financial and reporting implications of large incident/event level considerations operations Audience: Elected officials, senior executive, senior managers and agency administrators with policy responsibilities, but without specific ICS or Multi-Agency Coordination System function/roles or responsibilities. | ----- Tuesday, September 30, 2008 ----- |
