FEMA provides emergency management training in three ways: resident courses at Emmitsburg, MD, independent study, and FEMA developed courses conducted by states. For information on these
programs, please visit: EligibilityAny Alaska resident with substantial involvement in emergency management can apply for training at National Fire Academy (NFA) at Emmitsburg, MD. Professional Development Series (PDS)FEMA created the PDS curriculum to help emergency managers develop key skills and abilities necessary for managing all-hazard disasters and emergencies. To receive credit for completion of the FEMA PDS Series, students must complete all seven courses listed below. Each course is available for download as a self-extracting file. below: Integrated Emergency Management CourseThe IEMC is a 4.5 day exercise based training activity that places public officials and emergency personnel in a realistic crisis situation within a structured learning environment. The IEMC National Open Enrollment System has two open enrollment periods for resident IEMC programs at EMI and Mt. Weather. During each of the open enrollment periods all potential students from all regions of the country are eligible to apply.
